A lot of people, mainly Republicans or anti-Obama supporters, are making a lot of the symbolism shown by a small section of the Occupy Wall Street protesters.
People have complained about their lack of transparency, their secret huddled meetings that involve chants and “mind control” symbolism that they believe shows the group to be a zombie like tribe of Obamatrons just out to cause havoc and make a mess of Wall Street and the park they are staying in.
I haven’t seen any statistics that show the links between those that don’t support the Occupy Wall St movement and any previous linkage or support to the Tea Party but it would be interesting to compare and contrast.
Even though it seems on many right wing TV shows, web sites and radio shows that Republicans see the Occupy Wall Street protests as some kind of left wing anti-capitalist plot to ensure a 2nd term for Obama. In reality conservatives and Tea Party supporters are, AND should be, on the side of the protests.
We all know that during the Tea Party protests and the Town Hall meetings during last years health debate the left wing media made much of those protesters who turned up with guns or signs linking Obama with Hitler.
In a similar manner we are currently witnessing FOX and other right wing media outlets criticise the OWS protests for the same sort of behaviour they were vehemently supporting only a few months back.
This is a perfect sign of the hypocrisy that surrounds the main stream media as well as those people who have fallen for the false right / left paradigm that keeps most countries locked in the grip of the super rich.
These are the 1% the OWS are protesting about who fund both sides of the political debate and thus always achieve their aims no matter which “commoner” sits upon the temporary throne of President or Prime Minister.
Just as I didn’t dismiss the Tea Party protests because of the actions of small minority I will not dismiss the Occupy Wall Street protests for similar acts by individuals or sub groups of people. Yes many people might have voted for Obama at the last election but I would suspect a large proportion of them are now regretting that decision.
Obama is the literal embodiment of the Wall Street machine and to support him whilst attacking the people who control him seems confused at the least. Maybe they just don’t read enough about where his election funds came from and cannot see beyond their two party conditioning that blinds them to the fact that the USA now has their very own Tony Blair.
Just like we Brits voted in Labour in 1997 to get one of the most war loving, civil liberty hating, right wing politicians of all time the Americans voted in 2008 their own version. Falling for the “change we can believe in” patter of a politician that had a political compass as bent as Blairs.
No true left winger could support Blair or Obama’s love of war, destruction of liberty and subservience to the city bankers that swooned, sweet talked and funded them.
How can you call yourself a true man of the working class when you went to the best schools money can buy and only witness council estates on televised “walk throughs” designed to show how “in touch” you are with Joe Bloggs the builder. The same builder whose job your financial buddies are shipping offshore because it saves them money.
So whilst it is true that the Occupy Wall Street crowd has it’s fair share of Obamatrons, and uneducated left wingers who believe he really is sticking up for them against their common foe it is not and should not be indicative of the whole movement who’s aims cross all political parties.
So to witness right wingers like Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck and the rest of the usual suspects attack the Occupy Wall Street protesters as:
“tattooed, body-pierced, sunken-chested 19-year-olds getting in fights with the police for fun.” – Ann Coulter
“directionless losers [who] pose for cameras while uttering random liberal clichés lacking any reason or coherence.” – Ann Coulter
“Liberals are now pointing the finger of blame at successful employers under the guise of fairness, but when they utter phrases like ‘fair share’ you just know, heh, they’re once again playing fast and furious with the truth.” – Rick Perry
“growing mobs” – Rep. Eric Cantor
“I think it’s dangerous, this class warfare.” – Mitt Romney
“I see the president’s rhetoric of envy inflaming the public and saying, Go get yours because rich people don’t deserve it. ” – Rand Paul
“Well, if you look at what they’ve been telling in the media, they don’t know why they’re there, they’re just mad. And I see people angry in my district too, but this attack upon business, attack upon industry, attack upon freedom, and I think that’s what this is all about.” — Paul Broun
“What are these people for? To the degree that they’re for anything, it’s left-wing nuttiness.” – Karl Rove
and people that “will come for you and drag you into the streets and kill you.” – Glenn Beck
The same people who were recently admiring the FOX sponsored Tea Party protests as brave Americans standing up for their constitutional rights and defending their right to protest as distinctly American are now flip reversing because a number of the protesters are obvious Obama supporters or left wingers.
It seems it’s only okay to stand up for you believe in if you believe in the right things – literally.
I have no truck with either the right or left in the USA. Mainly because I am a Brit but in all countries most populations have fallen for the false left/right political paradigm. However when you have Libertarians like Ron Paul and Liberals like Dennis Kucinich both supporting the Occupy Wall St protests, an End to the FED and an end to the foreign entanglements the US founding fathers warned against then it should be clear that the OWS protest group is not and should not be seen as just a tool of the left.
It might have left wing and Obama supporting groups trying to co-opt it, and control it from within just like the Tea Party got screwed from within by Republicans. However as much as some may not want to admit it, it is clear that both liberals and conservatives support the Occupy movement and this includes original Tea Party founders and arch anti-statists alike.
Karl Denninger who helped found the Tea Party before becoming disillusioned with it once it had been co-opted by the Republicans supports the protests and sees similarities with the original Tea Party protests saying:
“The problem with protests and the political process is that it is very easy, no matter how big the protest is, for the politicians to simply wait until the people go home,” financial blogger Karl Denninger observed. “And then they can ignore you.”
“Well, Occupy Wall Street was a little different,” he continued. “And back in 2008, I wrote that when we will actually see change is when the people come, they set up camp, and they refuse to go home. That appears to be happening now.”
Along with the Oath Keepers and other big names such as Alex Jones – groups and people who are definitely not left wing Obama supporters. They are hoping to help steer the protests towards the most important central aim which is to End the FED. The Oath Keepers recently said:
Oath Keepers sees good reason to stand in the streets with these awakening souls and protect their right to free speech, to peacefully assemble, and to redress their grievances to their government, as the Constitution prescribes for all Americans. That is one thing. Another facet of our initiative is to use these public gatherings to reach and teach many who now hunger for the truth we can show them how the Constitution will protect them better than an over sized, bloated Federal behemoth hell-bent on controlling every aspect of each citizens life.
To point this out to the masses, Oath Keepers is organizing a joint effort along with Alex Jones of Infowars.com (who himself called for an Occupy the Fed movement); Steven Vincent of End The Fed; Danny Panzellas Truth Squad TV; Brandon Smith of Alt-Mkt.com; Gary Franch of Restore The Republic; and others as quickly as we can contact them. Remember Bob Dwyer, the guy who started the first Tea Party to launch the Ron Paul revolution? Hes in. The forces of Constitutional rule of law must muster now to deflect the bile being belched forth by the socialist/statist extremists …. Oath Keepers has the message American youth need. If we do not go out into the street and give them the truth, can we really say were still honoring our Oath?
Therefore it should be clear to anyone with half a brain cell that when the official mainstream media TV stations and pundits like those on FOX attack the protesters as “Anti-American” they are not only talking out their ass they are being totally disingenuous having previously supported Tea Party protests as being the epitome of true American spirit.
Hopefully enough people are now gathering their news sources from alternative sources and can see through the bullshit that TV shows like those on FOX are spitting out in the direction of the protests.
Remember – In a free society the public can and should protest when their government becomes nothing more than the executive arm of the banking industry.
Civil disobedience is moral and just when the cause is right and just like the civil rights movement, the anti-apartheid protests, the boycott and divestment campaign and other worthy protests of note the Occupy Wall Street protests should be applauded and supported whatever your political view.
People from all sides of the political spectrum should be demanding real change and I think this video with Dylan Ratigan says it all. Both Democrats and Republicans are corrupt and until a new system is created nothing will change.
